00:00:00.299 --> 00:00:05.208
gratitude is not for what you have, but what you are.

00:00:05.208 --> 00:00:13.951
Gratitude is one of those big platitudes that are spoken about these days and everyone talks about being grateful, having gratitude.

00:00:13.951 --> 00:00:16.126
You know you should be grateful for what you have.

00:00:16.126 --> 00:00:17.472
You could be a lot worse.

00:00:17.472 --> 00:00:26.513
But is that true gratitude or is that, somewhat, in the indirect way, you're having pity that you're not in somebody else's shoes?

00:00:26.513 --> 00:00:28.626
This is one way of looking at it.

00:00:28.626 --> 00:00:41.015
But what if gratitude is actually more for what you are, when you actually realize your true nature, your true essence of who you are?

00:00:41.899 --> 00:00:54.091
Now, if you look at it from a Vedantic point of view, as we've always done on this podcast, the formless self is already whole, complete.

00:00:54.091 --> 00:00:55.273
It lacks nothing.

00:00:55.273 --> 00:00:58.902
What more could you give that it does not already have?

00:00:58.902 --> 00:01:03.950
Can worldly desires even satisfy the Atman?

00:01:03.950 --> 00:01:07.855
Does the Atman get influenced by worldly desires?

00:01:07.855 --> 00:01:08.421
Only?

00:01:08.421 --> 00:01:13.352
The mind gets affected by desires not being attained.

00:01:13.352 --> 00:01:22.572
But if you realize that my true self is this formless one, I do not have a separate identity to God.

00:01:22.572 --> 00:01:24.983
Me and God are one and the same.

00:01:24.983 --> 00:01:26.844
What does God need that he doesn't already have?

00:01:26.844 --> 00:01:27.986
Do not have a separate identity to God.

00:01:27.986 --> 00:01:28.868
Me and God are one and the same.

00:01:28.868 --> 00:01:30.510
What does God need that he doesn't already have.

00:01:30.510 --> 00:01:31.852
It's already complete, it's perfect.

00:01:31.852 --> 00:01:32.915
It lacks nothing.

00:01:32.915 --> 00:01:34.537
There's nothing that can complete it.

00:01:34.537 --> 00:01:36.561
There's no void.

00:01:36.581 --> 00:01:44.174
Gratitude flows not from gaining more, but recognizing everything needed is already present.

00:01:44.174 --> 00:01:51.590
But recognizing everything needed is already present, there's no need for me even to desire something more, because life will provide what life wants to provide.

00:01:51.590 --> 00:01:53.887
It's none of my karma.

00:01:53.887 --> 00:02:00.768
And you see, when you live as a non-doer, the akarta, gratitude is very easy.

00:02:00.768 --> 00:02:07.703
But when we become the akarta, then that also means we become the enjoyer of the fruits of the actions we do.

00:02:07.703 --> 00:02:08.985
And therefore, guess what?

00:02:08.985 --> 00:02:12.454
Even the gratitude is now dependent.

00:02:13.180 --> 00:02:22.342
To make the gratitude free and full of freedom, one has to understand what's their true nature, which is already full.

00:02:22.342 --> 00:02:26.852
I've grown up listening to this that you know.

00:02:26.852 --> 00:02:31.227
My Guru has always said that every breath is grace.

00:02:31.227 --> 00:02:33.832
There's no such thing that isn't grace.

00:02:33.832 --> 00:02:39.171
Every moment is a gift from this formless one, this Nirankar.

00:02:39.171 --> 00:02:51.411
And when you live with that understanding, you're not actually grateful to things per se in your life, you're actually just grateful for life itself.

00:02:51.411 --> 00:02:55.483
You see the sacredness of life, your own life and how you live.

00:02:55.483 --> 00:02:58.972
That life has to be one of a sacred duty.

00:02:58.972 --> 00:03:17.816
Therefore, to show true gratitude is to live a sacred life, is to live a life that is based on saintly qualities, and that means one is kind, one is considerate, humble, sweet-natured, soft-spoken, nice to others, kind, caring, compassionate, full of empathy.

00:03:17.816 --> 00:03:21.811
Those are signs of someone full of gratitude.

00:03:21.811 --> 00:03:28.020
Someone full of gratitude.

00:03:28.040 --> 00:03:33.528
You can be grateful for the things that you get in life, but truly gratitude is that where you are just happy with what is.

00:03:33.528 --> 00:03:35.451
You don't need more.

00:03:35.451 --> 00:03:36.993
That creates gratitude.

00:03:38.436 --> 00:03:48.501
To practice gratitude, be grateful for being able to those of us that have had access to this wisdom, regardless of what path you follow.

00:03:48.501 --> 00:03:55.361
If you've come across formless awareness, then why didn't you start each day with gratitude for awareness?

00:03:55.361 --> 00:03:58.026
I know that I am awake this morning.

00:03:58.026 --> 00:04:02.323
You can start each day by being aware of the breath and thanking that.

00:04:02.323 --> 00:04:04.888
You are even aware of the breath, that you're conscious.

00:04:05.555 --> 00:04:12.638
You don't have to thank existence just for possessions, achievements or people in your life, but just the fact that you're.

00:04:12.638 --> 00:04:19.975
You know the very being within that you're able to even perceive these possessions, achievements and people.

00:04:19.975 --> 00:04:22.689
Without this beingness, there wouldn't be this recognition of possessions, achievements and people.

00:04:22.689 --> 00:04:32.317
Without this beingness, there wouldn't be this recognition of possessions, achievements or people, and that's something you can do any time of the day For my own life.

00:04:32.418 --> 00:04:33.901
I'm grateful for my Guru.

00:04:33.901 --> 00:04:48.190
I'm grateful for the Brahmgyana that my Guru gave me and that has allowed me to see life in a much more beautiful way and live a life that, hopefully, others can say it was a beautiful way of living.

00:04:48.190 --> 00:04:58.687
The atmosphere in my home has to be full of nurture, care, love and compassion, understanding each other instead of scolding and putting each other down.

00:04:58.687 --> 00:05:04.516
Those things are not to be done each other down.

00:05:04.516 --> 00:05:10.067
Those things are not to be done not by somebody who is living a life of gratitude or someone who is just full of gratitude themselves, like I've mentioned.

00:05:10.067 --> 00:05:10.809
You know we turn.

00:05:10.809 --> 00:05:15.101
We see that gratitude turns ordinary life into sacred life.

00:05:15.101 --> 00:05:24.408
The fact that every moment is a way of spiritual awakening, every moment is a recognition of this formless awareness.

00:05:24.408 --> 00:05:30.684
We can all see the sacredness of that, and that is true gratitude.

00:05:30.684 --> 00:05:32.882
Gratitude is not simply saying thank you.

00:05:32.882 --> 00:05:41.384
It's about your whole being being thankful, without words, in silence.

00:05:41.384 --> 00:05:45.846
Don't see gratitude as blessings to count.

00:05:45.846 --> 00:05:51.185
Recognize that you yourself are the blessing.

00:05:51.185 --> 00:05:54.071
Take care, namaste.
